SYNOPSIS

The Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) is a key Entry Point Project of the nation’s Economic Transformation Programme. The Sungai Buloh – Kajang Line (SBK Line) is the first among several MRT lines that will eventually make up the entire KVMRT system. This proposed project by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd (SPNB) involves the construction of a 51-km mass rapid transit line connecting Sg Buloh to Kajang. It will pass through the KL City Centre and be integrated with the existing KTM Komuter, Ampang LRT Line and Kelana Jaya Line. Only about 9.5km of the SBK Line will be underground while 41.5km will be elevated. The SBK Line will have 35 stations and 2 depots.

Currently, the railway scheme is on public display at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (Menara DBKL), Petaling Jaya City Council (Menara MPPJ), Shah Alam City Council, Selayang Municipal Council and Kajang Municipal Council as well as at Bangsar LRT Station and the Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat (SPAD) office in Menara Dayabumi, for a 3-month period ending on 14 May 2011. Although the public can continue to provide feedback at the Public Display venues, through the toll free helpline number at 1800-82-6868 or email to feedback@kvmrt.com.my, this IEM Forum is being organised by the HTETD as a platform for learned discourse among engineers on various controversial issues that  have since been raised at other venues, main stream media, websites, etc.  Views from the forum will be summarised by IEM and these will then be forwarded to the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) as “ENGINEERS’ FEEDBACK” and also serve to provide an update on the IEM Position Paper on Public Transport.

We have invited several professional engineers and academicians (who may have more insights to better explain the controversial issues or even raise more new issues for discussion) to assist the Moderator, Dato’ Ir Chew Swee Hock make the Forum more lively. Invitations are also sent out to SPAD, SPNB, Project Delivery Partner and TRANSIT to send their representatives. We hope engineers who attend the Forum will share their views freely, and having gained more knowledge and insights to these controversial issues, you will be able to better articulate them in future venues, such as the town hall meetings organised by Resident Associations.
